Income Protection - can I claim if I am only temporarily unable to work?
Even if you are only temporarily unable to work, income protection will look after you.
Unlike many occupational pension schemes, where you will not be considered for ill-health early retirement unless you are permanently incapable of work, income protection cover will pay out even if you are only temporarily unable to work.
If you're in an occupational pension scheme, you may be able to claim ill-health early retirement, but most schemes won't consider you for ill health early retirement unless your disability is permanent.
(Examples include the NHS Pension Scheme and the Teachers' Pension Scheme).
A 'temporary' condition could last several years. What would you do if your condition is not deemed 'permanent' in nature by your pension scheme's medical advisers and is refused?
