Non-Standard Terms

If an application is accepted, it may be on the terms originally quoted, known as 'standard terms'.

For reasons of the applicant's health, or perhaps due if they have a 'hazardous' occupation, or if they have any 'dangerous' hobbies, their application may be declined, or offered on non-standard terms.

If offered on non-standard terms, the terms could be, for example, an exclusion for a pre-existing medical condition, or a higher-than-normal premium (known as a 'premium loading').

The applicant would be free to decide whether or not to accept the terms.

If the terms are unacceptable, it would be possible to make an application to another insurer, to see if better terms can be obtained.

The applicant may choose not to accept the terms, in which case, the policy will not start, no premiums will be payable and the application will be cancelled.

If the applicant chooses to accept the terms, the policy will start on the amended terms.
