Income Protection - state benefits

If you are unable to work due to ill health, you may be able to claim state benefits.

Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) is payable for up to 28 weeks. After SSP has ended, you may be able to claim Employment and Support Allowance, which replaced Incapacity Benefit on 27 October 2008.

Will state benefits be enough to live on?

Maximum benefits for a single person:

  • Statutory Sick Pay is currently £79.15 a week
  • Employment and Support Allowance pays up to £95.15 a week
