Negative Equity

'Negative equity' is the commonly-used term to describe the situation where the market value of a property is less than the amount of the outstanding mortgage that is secured upon that property.

A borrower who is in such a position would find it very difficult or even impossible, to remortgage to another lender.

Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on the mortgage.
