UK Pensions - a summary
From the Beveridge Report in 1941, which led, in 1948, to the introduction of a state pension to the Turner Commission in 2004, there have been many reports and inquiries into UK pension provision.
In 1988 personal pensions were introduced; followed in 2001 by charge-capped stakeholder pensions
On 6 April 2006, known as A-day in the pensions world, the biggest changes for many years were introduced. Now we have the advent of Personal Accounts, due to be introduced in 2012.
Large firms in the private sector have historically provided final salary pension schemes for their employees, but these are now very much in decline. In January 2009, the UK officially went into recession, in consequence, people are concerned to know what pension protection is available.
